“Women Are Gold” is a film about a local shop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia called Penh Lenh, empowering marginalized and at-risk women by providing them with education, skills training, and career opportunities. Penh Lenh chose ‘Women are gold’ as their slogan in a direct response to an old Khmer saying that “Men are gold and women are white cloth,” implying that women are inferior. All of Penh Lenh’s products are locally sourced and handcrafted by the female artisans at the shop. Penh Lenh’s mission is to empower marginalized and at-risk women in Cambodia to pursue their life goals through quality education and sustainable employment.

Actuality Abroad is more than a film study abroad program. They are a service learning organization that takes students and young professionals abroad to create media on changemakers in developing communities around the world.
