Activism – 5 min

“Hope” tells the story of DeeDee, a community leader, who explains how the Integrated Tribal Development Program (ITDP) brought prosperity to his village. ITDP is a non-profit organization in Chiang Mai, Thailand that works to alleviate poverty among the hill tribes of northern Thailand. This video was produced on location by an Actuality Abroad student crew, produced in conjunction with COM 212: Social Justice Communication, a travel course led by Dr. Christopher Boulton at the University of Tampa – http://cboulton.weebly.com/travel.html

Actuality Abroad is on the ground with every student crew to oversee production of these short documentaries, providing the services of executive producer, production manager, location scout, additional editing, and whatever else is needed to complete the project.

Actuality Abroad is more than a film study abroad program. They are a service learning organization that takes students and young professionals abroad to create media on changemakers in developing communities around the world. Their films spread the word about nonprofits, NGOs and social entrepreneurs who are implementing innovative, new ideas to combat chronic social problems.
