Death of a Star
Science & Technology – 10 min

Two NASA engineers work late one night on a failing Mars rover. When it’s revealed that the younger of the two has just been added to the more senior member’s team, he is nonplussed. Gradually he comes around to the new recruit, only to become further disheartened when he discovers she plans on leaving NASA soon. She soon realizes why this means so much to him and reconsiders her important role on the project.
Director Statement: I returned to my hometown to make this film to the place that held the most special meaning, NASA Houston Space Center. I put it to the universe to prove to myself that I still loved filmmaking and I was meant to be doing this and the universe did not disappoint. The magic still exists there, where small moments happen amongst teens employed at the gift shops to summer camp leaders or security guards who smile and say, “Won’t you tell me what your movie is about?’. This one’s for them. Dying stars, forever reborn.
